Our tour is designed to immerse you in the fascinating history of Jewish life in the Alentejo. You’ll visit historic towns, explore preserved sites, and learn about the enduring legacy of Jewish communities. We aim to provide an authentic and deeply insightful experience.
We’ll begin our journey in Castelo de Vide, a town known for its well-preserved Jewish quarter. You’ll explore the narrow streets and discover hidden synagogues.
We’ll learn about the town’s history as a refuge for Jewish people during times of persecution. You’ll hear stories of resilience and faith that have been passed down through generations. Castelo de Vide is a place where you can feel the presence of the past on your Alentejo Jewish Tour.
Next, we’ll journey to Portalegre and Marvão, two medieval towns with significant Jewish influence. You’ll explore Portalegre, learning about its historical Jewish community and its role in trade and commerce.
We’ll then travel to Marvão, a hilltop village with stunning views and a rich history. You’ll learn about the strategic importance of these towns and the contributions of Jewish people to their development.
We will also explore the border town of Valencia de Alcantara, just across the border in Spain, and learn about the interconnectedness of these communities. These towns offer a glimpse into the medieval world and the Jewish presence within it on your Alentejo Jewish Tour.
Our tour will continue to Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage city with a long history of Jewish presence. You’ll explore the historical sites and learn about the city’s Jewish community.
We’ll then travel to Monsaraz, a medieval village with stunning views of the Alentejo landscape. You’ll discover how Jewish communities integrated into the rural life of the Alentejo.
We’ll visit local museums and cultural centers, to see the local history. We’ll also meet friendly locals who will share their knowledge and perspectives. This is a journey of discovery and cultural immersion into the Alentejo Jewish heritage.

Any changes made after booking confirmation along the tour will not be refundable, and the resulting costs will be considered extras and paid by the customer.
Our tours are spoken in Portuguese, English, Spanish and French.
If you must cancel your trip, penalties may apply based on the total trip price.
Cancellation requests must be made by email.
Before you enter into a contract with us, we reserve the right to change any of the facilities or services described in our brochure or website. We also reserve the right to cancel the booking do to weather and/or other conditions. Any changes are usually very minor and we will advise you at the earliest possible date. If a major change, such as change in departure time, becomes necessary, we will inform you as soon as reasonably possible your tours begins. When a major change or cancellation occurs you will have the choice of accepting the change of arrangements, purchasing another available tour from us, or cancelling your tour. If booking is cancelled we will refund all payments made directly to us in respect of the tour price. We will not refund any personal expenses you may have incurred as a result of your booking such as flight payments for land-only tours, travel insurance, equipment purchases, visas, vaccinations etc.
